01/20/2007 - Columbus, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Big Ten rivals will collide in Columbus tonight, as the seventh-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes host the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Losses in two of the last three games have dropped Iowa to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in conference. On Tuesday, the Hawkeyes fell to 0-5 in true road games with a 71-64 setback to rival Indiana.
Ohio State was in action on Wednesday, as it cruised to a 73-41 decision over Northwestern. The Buckeyes have now won two straight games and five of the last six to move to 15-3 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten action. The only three losses for the Buckeyes have come on the road to North Carolina, Florida and Wisconsin, three of the nation's top four teams.
Iowa owns a 74-66 edge in the all-time series with Ohio State, including a 67-60 victory over the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Tournament's championship game last season.
Iowa depends heavily on Adam Haluska to be productive at the offensive end, and the standout is currently averaging 20.3 ppg. Tyler Smith has proven to be a strong second scoring option with 15.1 ppg, but Iowa does not have another player averaging more than 6.9 ppg. The Hawkeyes are netting 69.4 ppg overall while yielding 63.6 ppg to their opponents. Haluska scored 21 points for Iowa on Tuesday, but his solid effort was not enough to help Iowa avoid the loss at Indiana. Smith scored 17 points and dished out six assists for the Hawkeyes, who also got 12 points from Seth Gorney. Indiana actually led the game by as many as 21 points midway through the second half, and although the Hawkeyes rallied to make the contest competitive, the Hoosiers maintained control until the final horn.
Freshman Daequan Cook has led Ohio State in scoring for the majority of this season, but he has not been a major offensive factor in recent outings, and his scoring averaging has dropped to 13.9 ppg. The new leader at the offensive end is another freshman, center Greg Oden, the nation's top recruit. Oden missed some action early on as he was recovering from wrist surgery, but has played 11 games and is averaging 14.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 4.0 bpg, all of which are team highs. Oden was limited to five points and six rebounds on Wednesday against Northwestern, and Cook finished with only nine points. Still, Ohio State won the game by 32 points on the strength of a 17-point, 10-assist outing by yet another outstanding freshman, point guard Mike Conley Jr. Jamar Butler added 16 points for the Buckeyes, who managed to limit the Wildcats to 32.7 percent shooting from the field.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.
Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.
Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.
A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.
Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.
Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.
Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.
